Turning Ambiguity into Product Direction

Project type

Research Strategy • Facilitation • Alignment

The challenge

Before products reach users, they pass through teams. When those teams lack a shared vision, research strategy can create clarity long before usability becomes the problem.

Across multiple initiatives within our org, teams had ambitious roadmaps but lacked a shared understanding of the product vision, customer experience, or success criteria. Before research could answer user questions, the organization first needed agreement on what questions it was trying to answer.

Approach

I designed and facilitated structured working sessions that combined research thinking, behavioral frameworks, and collaborative exercises to surface assumptions, identify areas of consensus and disagreement, and transform abstract discussions into actionable product direction.

Impact

• Established shared terminology by revealing where stakeholders were using identical language to describe fundamentally different concepts.
• Developed shared mental models that brought research, product, design, and strategy teams together around common goals and product principles.
• Exposed hidden assumptions and conflicting perspectives, enabling teams to resolve strategic tensions before they became product decisions.
• Turned open-ended discussion into actionable product principles and prioritized opportunities.
• Produced strategic frameworks that continued to guide planning, collaboration, and decision making long after the workshops concluded.

I welcome opportunities to collaborate, exchange ideas, and tackle complex problems with curious people. If you'd like to connect, I'd love to hear from you.
